MEDICAL STAFF

EAA missions are always crewed with a specialised team of 1 physician and 1 nurse or paramedic.
Other specialist medical crew can be called upon, depending on the patient’s medical requirements.
Medical staff on the EAA missions must fulfil the following requirements:

Physician:

  • Specialist status in anaesthesiology, internal medicine or general / traumatologic surgery or emergency medicine.
  • At least one year fulltime intensive care experience and practice on ICU.
  • Continuous medical education.
  • Multilingual skills, at least English and German or French are mandatory.

Flight Nurse / Paramedic:

  • Minimum 4 years experience as a Registered Nurse working in Intensive Care and/or Anaesthesia and/or Emergency Room and/or Paramedic with minimum 5 years pre-hospital and emergency medical work experience and intensive care transport education.
  • Continuous medical education.
  • Multilingual skills, at least English and German or French are mandatory.

Continuous medical education:

All staff is continuously trained for the special medical requirements of air ambulance transports. This means postgraduate professional education in e.g.
  • Flight Physiology
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support
  • Advanced Paediatric Life Support
  • Trauma Life Support
  • Critical Care Medicine
  • Critical Care Transport Medicine
  • Crew Member Training
  • Infectious diseases and hygiene
  • Travel medicine
We offer regular full-scale-simulator-based CRM-trainings (Crew Resource Management) for all medical crew members. We offer also fellowships with hospitals and ground ambulance operators.
EAA has close co-operation with well-known hospitals and institutions in special cases of infectious/tropical diseases, paediatrics or organ assist system transports.
For example we offer a specialized transport service for children to Extra Corporal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) in cooperation with the University Hospital in Mannheim.

Multilingual skills:

Many crew members speak several languages English, French, German, Spanish, Dutch or Luxembourgish. English and German or French are mandatory.

Special cases:

Whenever needed according to age or medical condition of the patient other specialists (e.g. paediatricians, neonatologists, gynaecologists, surgeons) are available if required.
