Luxembourg, February 2014 - The European Commission and more specifically the EEAS (European External Action Service) has elaborated an emergency medical evacuation plan for the Winter Olympics 2014 for EU-citizens from Sochi if needed.
All countries of the European Union (EU) were asked about their capacity for medical evacuation in case of an accident or severe illness of EU-citizens during the Olympic Games.
The Luxembourg Government through the Luxembourg Civil Protection Unit has proposed its MEDEVAC module which is delivered in this case by Luxembourg Air Ambulance (LAA), a member of European Air Ambulance (EAA).
Amongst all suppliers suggested by all EU countries, LAA has been retained as a reliable and professional partner for medical evacuation in this emergency plan.
Further arguments speaking for LAA were that all aircraft are dedicated air ambulance with state-of-the art medical equipment, and that the experienced flight crew as well as the specialised medical team all have a permanent visa for Russia.
LAA is available on request. Once activated, the departure from Luxembourg can be performed in 2 hours depending on the permits from the Russian authorities. The flight from Luxembourg to Sochi takes 4 hours. Once in Sochi the patient will be picked up and immediately flown back to the destination of choice.
