What people know less, are the applicable regulations regarding emergency medical equipment installed in the aircraft.
In the document bellow, very useful information regarding medical equipment installation rules but also pictures of what you will see and will never see in EAA aircrafts.
Emergency Medical Equipment installed on aircraft operated by European EMS Operator is governed by the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA). Applicable regulations are:
- EASA PART-21: Design
- EASA CS-25 / CS-23: Certifications Specifications for Aeroplanes
STC Process Duration: 10 months
- Emergency Medical Equipment needs to be secured in order to sustain inertia forces experienced during aborted take-off and/or emergency landing (CS 25.561 - CS 25.562)
- Stretchers and oxygen bottles installed on aircraft are subjected to certifications specifications (CS 25.785 - CS 25.1441 - CS 25.1443 - CS 25.1447 - CS 25.1453 )
- Emergency Medical Equipment installation modifies the original design of an aircraft and must be performed by an approved PART-21 organisationThis installation results in a supplemental type certificate approval (STC) delivered by EASA following an extensive process: compliance statement, drawings, safety analysis, ground test, flight tests, additional inspections…The STC is then registered on the European approved STC list
- Medical Supplement Type Certificate (STC) defines maintenance and operational procedures of the medical equipment
(Manual, checklist, regular inspections...).
